San Francisco’s Van Gogh museum quickly gained acclaim as a must-see exhibition. Located at SVN San Francisco, the fully immersive gallery features 300,000 cubic feet of visual and auditory art, including a playlist. The goal of the exhibit is to provide an experience that encapsulates the life of Van Gogh.
The museum is taking precautions against COVID-19. Social distancing is mandatory, and masks are required. The exhibit has also ramped up sanitation and cleaning, and the staff submits routine temperature checks and COVID tests. The Van Gogh Museum closes on September 6th, so be sure to visit soon! Tickets cost anywhere from $39.99-$49.99 each.
While the Van Gogh museum is spectacular, tickets can be hard to find. However, there are many other museums and attractions in the area that are just as breathtaking!
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, also known as SFMOMA, recently reopened its doors to guests after a closure due to the pandemic. Its most popular exhibits include Off The Wall, which literally takes art off the wall; the art is arranged around the gallery space. Another popular display is Close To Home, which depicts life throughout the pandemic.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly option, you might consider the Walt Disney Family Museum, which features both in-person and virtual exhibits. One of the exhibits in the gallery is Veterans’ Voices: Painted Realities, which is composed of artwork done by United States veterans. One of its most popular virtual galleries is it’s a small world, which demonstrates the necessity for diversity and acceptance in our divided world. The exhibit called upon the community to share their hopes and visions for a society filled with justice and equity. Another popular virtual gallery is Conserving The Magic Of Our Planet. The exhibit discusses the importance of conservation in a world where climate change and extinction are rampant. The museum tracks the evolution of Walt Disney Studios from its inception in the 20th century to its modern-day worldwide presence.
Another spectacle in San Francisco is the Asian Art Museum. It boasts one of the largest collections of art created by Asian Pacific Islander (API) folk in the nation. Its newest exhibit, teamLAB: Community, utilizes technology that is similar to the Van Gogh museum’s; the art is projected on the walls. However, contrary to the Van Gogh museum, the Asian Art Museum’s exhibit is constantly shifting and changing, projecting everything from beautiful flowers to a school of fish. Another exhibit in the Asian Art Museum deals with the process of healing. Chanel Miller: I was, I am, I will be; grapples with three steps in the evolution of personal healing and growth. A third exhibit titled After Hope: Videos of Resistance depicts the intersection of art and activism through a collection of fifty short videos.
All in all, the city of San Francisco is filled to the brim with artistic creations. The art is diverse and dynamic; the museums and galleries are melting pots of cultures and creations. Be sure to check out the Immersive Van Gogh experience, SFMOMA, The Walt Disney Family Museum, the Asian Art Museum, and more in San Francisco!
